[f. L. illatrāt-, ppl. stem of illatrāre (rare), f. il- (il-1) + latrāre to bark.]
‘To scoffe or barke at a thing’ (Cockeram 1623). Hence illaˈtration, ‘a barking against one’ (Blount Glossogr. 1656).
